Wilfred Guerrero - ZB2IB

This is our former club secretary Wilfred seen wearing a hat and clutching a microphone pretending to talk to far off lands on HF.

Wilfred was one of the most popular members of the club and for many years re-elected secretary unopposed. He was the force behind the introduction of the foundation licence and the introduction of the ZB3's and was working on amateur radio affairs when he suffered a heart attack.

Gibraltar mourns the death of Wilfred Guerrero

Gibraltar woke up to the sad news that Mr. Wilfred Guerrero, aged
55 and husband to the Gibraltar Federation of Small Businesses
Chairwoman Marie Lou Guerrero, has suddenly passed away on Wednesday
night at St. Bernards hospital.

The news shocked most a large sector of the local community as the
popularity of Mr. Guerrero within the whole of the community became
apparent.

People from across the whole of the business, political and
diplomatic community gathered at St. Theresas today to give their
last respects to the family and friends of Mr. Guerrero. Amongst
those in attendance at his funeral were the Governor David Durie and
his wife, the Chief Minister, Sports Minister, DTI Minister, Tourism
Minister, members if the Opposition, Independent Liberal Forum and
the newly formed Labour Party, and large numbers of businessmen and
retailers who throughout the years had come to respect Mr. Guerrero
for his charm and easy going nature.

For the first time in many years St. Theresa’s church was fully
packed during a funeral service, indicating the immense popularity
this man had achieved throughout his life.

Mr. Guerrero, Wilfred to his friends, is known for his incredible
support during the rise of his wife through the small business
federation ranks both locally and international. A humble generous
man, always willing to help others and lending that early day smile
that helped his many friends through the day, Mr. Guerrero will be
very much missed by the local community.

He was well known for his relaxed attitude, always willing to chat
to everyone. Mr. Guerrero was also amongst one of the many loyal
readers of iberianews.com, supporting and contributing to the
development of the online publication in the background. His many
contributions led to many news flashes of breaking news stories
which without his voluntary assistance Iberianews.com would not have
been able to bring to its readers.

His death has come as a major surprise to the community at large,
with the circumstances surrounding the last moments before his death
having already caused major controversy as both the family and close
friends question the procedures followed by the Hospital.

A formal complaint has been lodged, with a request for a formal
inquiry into the moments leading to his death. Legal advice has
already been sought with statements being taken by the authorities
investigating the case.
